A Sweet Floral Moment: Birthday Cupcakes for a Special 11-Year-Old

I recently had the chance to make something a little different — a batch of birthday cupcakes for a friend’s daughter who just turned 11. While I don’t usually take on custom baking projects, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to create something fun, floral, and magical for her big day.

These cupcakes started with a rich chocolate base and were topped with Swiss meringue buttercream in soft pastel shades. I played with floral piping techniques (for the first time!) and added finishing touches like edible gold, delicate edible butterflies, and oversized pearl sprinkles in blue and white.

The whole look came together with a soft, whimsical feel — perfect for an 11th birthday celebration. While floral piping was a challenge, I enjoyed the creative process and loved how each cupcake became its own little piece of edible art.

This was a one-off project made just for a friend, but I’m so happy to share it here under the Seaside Magnolia name. It was a joy to create something so unique and personal.

Thanks for following along!
