Ingredients:
One package of pre-made pie crusts (usually contains two crusts)
1/2 cup of your favourite jam or preserves (e.g., strawberry, raspberry, or blueberry)
One egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 cup powdered sugar
1-2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Pie Crusts:
Roll out the pre-made pie crusts on a lightly floured surface to smooth any creases.
Trim the edges to create a rectangular shape using a knife or pizza cutter. Cut each crust into smaller rectangles, about 3x4 inches. Depending on the size, you should get about 6-8 rectangles per crust.
Assemble the Pop-Tarts:
Place a small spoonful of jam or preserves in the center of half of the rectangles, leaving a small border around the edges.
Brush the edges of the rectangles with the beaten egg.
Place the remaining rectangles on top of the jam-covered ones, pressing down the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
Bake in the Air Fryer:
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Place the assembled pop tarts in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not touching each other. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to work in batches.
Cook for 8-10 minutes or until the pop tarts are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them, as cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model.
Bake in the Oven (Alternative Option):
If you prefer to bake them in the oven, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Transfer the assembled pop tarts to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the tops with the remaining egg wash to make them golden.
Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pop tarts are golden brown.
Glaze:
While the pop tarts are baking or air frying, make the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
Once the pop tarts have cooled slightly, drizzle or spread the glaze over the top.
Add sprinkles on top of the glaze if desired.
Serve:
Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade pop tarts warm or at room temperature!
These homemade pop tarts are quick and easy to make, whether you bake them in the oven or air fry them for a crispy finish.
